Dessert: Stickhouse @ Sunway Pyramid

Everyone knows frozen yogurt and bubble tea has been the latest craze of 2011 and 2012 (so far), but still no one can say the humble ice-cream is dying out.

If places like Chatime and GongCha have proven that a market does exist for "premium" bubble tea, then there must also be a market for premium ice-cream right? It's probably along those lines of thinking that we see so many new gelato shops sprouting up all over. Stickhouse offers the premium ice-cream too, but instead of scooping it like everyone else, they freeze it onto sticks.

But, it's not just ice-cream on a stick of course. Customers can choose whether or not to dip all or half the stick into a flavour of choice. On top of that, toppings can also be added onto the dip. The toppings can only be put on the part that has dippings, so if you only go for half dippings you can only have half toppings.

Sounds complicated, I know. But in reality it's very simple. So simple in fact, that we wondered if this really was worth the price we paid for it.

We decided to just go for one to share, which was the Giandula flavour, a mix of hazelnut and chocolate, and chose half white chocolate dippings and hazelnut toppings. While we couldn't doubt the quality of the ice-cream and white chocolate dip (rich and dense!), we still felt the prices for the toppings and dippings were too steep for our liking. At an extra RM1 for the half-dip and another RM1 for the topping, we won't be seeking this out again for sure.

The total damage of that stick of ice-cream? RM8.90 because the flavour was considered a 'Premium', RM1 for the half-dip and RM1 for the toppings, bringing the total to RM10.90 before tax. Did we just burn a hole in our wallet? Yes. Would I rather go to Jusco and buy 2 sticks of Magnum next time instead? Yes. Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not the last to pay for expensive food (Drops wouldn't survive if we didn't!), but we also don't want to be ripped off, and sadly Stickhouse has priced itself beyond our liking. We wish them all the best in courting other customers though!
