Food: Morganfield's @ Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur

So we've been wanting to try Morganfield's for awhile now, but Pavilion always seems like such a drive away! Not to mention the place is usually packed on weekends during dinner time. But it so happened we managed to get a table one Saturday night before watching Motorway; an 8.15pm movie forcing us to eat earlier than we normally would. =P

Morganfield's joins the ranks of the few restaurants that have pork ribs on the menu! Other places around town that we have seen pork ribs include Chicago Rib House, or Racks in Changkat Bukit Bintang. For those looking for a more western-family-diner ambiance with pork downtown, Morganfield's would be the place to go. =)

As is our usual tradition, we started off with some wings - the Spicy Chicken Wings (RM 16.90)! For the price, we were a bit disappointed there wasn't perhaps an extra wing. But any way we found these to be slightly too much on the sour side, even though there was a tinge of spiciness. The meat and skin was tender and crispy, so overall not a bad start to the meal, though pricey.

With pork available on the menu here, we decided to go for 2 porky mains! One was the Pork Shoulder Chop (RM 32.90) doused in creamy butter sauce, served with mash potato and vegetables. I thought this was going to be perfect for me since I'm such a lover of cream sauce! Turns out the pork shoulder was a bit tough with quite a lot of fat in between, making it a bit hard to finish towards the end, especially with so much cream sauce. In fact in the end, we both felt the Pork Chop with Country Gravy at Betty's is more worth recommending than this.

Lastly we gave their signature Morganfield's Sticky Bones a try, a hearty serving of their Hickory Wood-Smoked Ribs doused in their hickory BBQ sauce. Even the half slab we had (RM 38.90) was a portion that is rather large for one person; we recommend that this be best enjoyed by sharing!

First impression was the good thanks to the tenderness of the meat. Meat falling off the bone is the exact tenderness that we want! We may have overdone it with dishes basted with sweet BBQ sauce though, because it tasted very similar to the chicken wings. Somehow we couldn't really finish this, but that could be because we had a pork overdose. (Or maybe it was just not our regular dinner time =P)

Overall, it was an average experience at Morganfield's. The pork ribs were good, but everything else was average at best. We might come back again to try other things on the menu, but only if we're in the Pavilion area!

P/S: In conjunction with Morganfield's 1st anniversary, there is a special platter for two, and also a platter-eating competition for couples this Saturday, 28th July! It looks like the platter features some of the best dishes at Morganfield's, namely a half rack of ribs, half a chicken, some sausages, and other sides. If you think you and your partner have what it takes to down this fastest amongst 9 other couples, why not prove it this weekend and win some $$ in the process?! =D

We also received a pleasant surprise when we asked for the bill. Also in conjunction with their 1st anniversary, all diners also receive a 20% discount off the bill. This is only valid till the end of the month.
